Our Best of the 2022/2023 Winter Season

Our Best of the 2022/2023 Winter Season

As the winter comes to an inevitable end (😢), we're looking back at our favorite parts from this past season.

We Launched our Far Out Trips and went to Japan

Hands down our favorite highlight from winter 22/23 was the launch of our Far Out adventure trips. Our first trip was 📍Niseko, Japan where we shredded Japow every. single. day. Plus the food, plus the culture, plus the in-room private onsens, plus the high-key good times and vibes with new friends and old ones.

Did it ruin powder days for the rest of our lives? Possibly. Are we definitely going back next year? Abso-f*cking-lutely. Are you coming with?

We Opened a Retail Space

One thing we're REALLY proud of is our retail space Far Out at Reno Public Market! It may or may not be the most grown-up thing we've ever done, but we knew we needed a space to call our own to not only house our ski and snowboards, but also to share our favorite brands, and odds 'n' ends from our travels abroad.

If you haven't been yet, add stopping by and saying hi to the top of your must-do list, whether you're a local or just visiting!

3 nude women at bluebird backcountry
Boottan Fest at Bluebird Backcountry, duh

One of our favorite events every season is Boottan Fest — an amazing event built on creating a safe space for women & femme folk to come together outside. We're proud sponsors of this event (naked skiing? Hell-oooo, count us in) and look forward to joining this amazing community year after year at Bluebird Backcountry.

Why naked? Ridding of the systemic bullshit (#ShredThePatriarchy), celebrating our bodies and the courage it takes to shed clothes in front of other people, and because it's fun, duh.

Hope you'll join us next year 😘

a bum-slapping good time at our bachelorette weekend
Bachelorette – Our Second Far Out Trip to Mt. Bachelor

It'd be easier to say what *didn't* happen on our Far Out women and non-binary ski trip to Mt. Bachelor. While no one actually got married, we treated ourselves to a little bachelorette trip, that truly checked all the boxes you would expect from this cup-filling, rom-com-reminiscent adventure....well except for the genitalia straws—we skipped that part.

The hangover only lasts a day, but the memories will last FOREVER 🫶

See you next year—same place, same shenanigans.

Second Tracks — A First-of-its-kind Ski & Snowboard Buyback Program

In Fall 2022, we launched a first-of-its-kind ski and snowboard buyback program. If you've been following us for awhile, you'll know we're continuously finding ways to make skiing and snowboarding more inclusive and accessible to everyone.

This industry can be incredibly cost-prohibitive, that's why we started Second Tracks. With our program you can trade in your gently used gear OF ANY BRAND (you're welcome!) for store credit or cash, use your credit toward a new pair of Coalition Snow skis or a new snowboard, or find your next (or first) pair of pre-loved skis or snowboard.

Our first listings sold out almost immediately, which told us we were providing a valuable service to our community.

We currently have some very yummy offerings listed on the site 😋 And as your season comes to an end, and you're looking to spring clean the gear closet, consider filling out an application to consign your skis or boards!

Our Second Cohort of Indigenous Backcountry Recipients

Our final highlight from the 22/23 winter is our second cohort of Indigenous Backcountry Scholarship recipients Cera Hassinan, Joelle Johnston, Saskia Livingstone, Stéphanie Hayes, and Taylor Bennett-Begaye.

We created this scholarship with our Ambassador and founder of On the Land Podcast, Deenaalee Hodgdon, because we know the future of snowsports is one that is diverse, welcoming, equitable, and inclusive. But it won't happen on its own. We must create it.

Learn more about the scholarship here; and donate towards next year's recipients here.

Thanks to everyone that helped make this past winter so amazing. We can't wait to see what the 23/24 winter has in store for us—rose, buds, thorns, and all. It'll be our 10th birthday and you know us—we'll be making it extra and we can't wait to celebrate. Want to join in on the festivities early? We're throwing our first party in June.
